Klamath Falls, Ore.– Former Oregon Governor Vic Atiyeh passed away Sunday night at a Portland hospital, according to a spokesperson for his family. Atiyeh was the last Republic governor to serve in Oregon, holding office for two terms in the 1980s. He’s credited with leading Oregon’s universities to transition from focusing on forestry and agriculture, toward engineering and international studies. According to the Associate Press, it was Atiyeh’s tax policy that introduced the tax rebate. Atiyeh was 91 years old.
