Klamath Falls, Ore.– An Oregon Trail Card fraud ring was busted up in Klamath Falls yesterday when Klamath County Sheriff’s Deputies raided the Mi Pueblo Meat Market on Main Street. Three ring leaders were arrested: 52-year old Severo Toro Castellon, 46-year old Rafael Ortega Vargas, and 33-year old Jose Morena Hernandez. Hernandez is also suspected of selling methamphetamine.
Sheriff Frank Skrah says those three were just the tip of the iceberg, with more than 30 people arrested so far, and another 30 arrest warrants issued in connection with the fraud ring that allowed Oregon Trail Card holders to sell their food stamps for fifty cents on the dollar. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Medford Police were also involved in the investigation.
