First-Responders Raise Thousands in Scholarship Funds

Klamath Falls, Ore.– Triad School hosted the third annual Guns and Hoses Basketball game, with a near-capacity crowd on hand. The charity basketball game benefits the Joann Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund, and started out as student Cody McNerney’s senior project. The firefighters came out on top this year, but the real winners were the four scholarship recipients – Laurel Stewart, Nicole Sonnerman, Michelle Moulton, and Brittany Eskildson. The scholarships will be presented to the recipients at a ceremony be in May. Each of these young ladies receives a $1000 scholarship to go towards their 2014-2015 college education expenses.

The game raised nearly $8,000 for scholarships, thanks in large part to the police officers and firefighters who volunteered their time and athleticism to the event.
