Owls sweep Simpson in home basketball doubleheader



KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Oregon Tech women’s basketball team is off to their first 5-0 start since 2008 after beating Simpson 98-53 on Tuesday night at Danny Miles Court. 

OIT held Simpson to 28 percent shooting and 21 points in the second half after building a 16-point lead. Karly LeVeque led the Owls (5-0) much of the night in scoring before finishing with 17 points behind Karissa Dixon’s 18. Kassi Conditt scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

The game was the first for Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls after four games and two exhibitions on the road.

Katie Lenik had 10 points to lead Simpson (3-1). OIT is idle until the Midland Empire Tournament in Klamath Falls on Nov. 22-23.

Men’s Basketball: Oregon Tech 92, Simpson 59

A 13-0 run to end the first half helped the Hustlin’ Owls to a 19-point halftime lead before beating Simpson 92-59 on Tuesday night at Danny Miles Court.

Oregon Tech hit 15 of 31 from three-point range, including a 5 of 7 performance from junior transfer Duncan Schramm. He had a game-best 17 points along with Mihajlo Matic, followed by 16 points from Kyle Waits, who returned to the lineup after a concussion sustained at the William Jessup Tournament last weekend. Austen Flint scored 12 points. Brandon Bautista threw eight assists with four points, as OIT (2-2) built a 24-4 assist-turnover ratio.

Simpson (1-4) had 15 points from Ian Corella and 11 points from Dalton Thacker. Oregon Tech plays again on Tuesday hosting Multnomah University.
