HS Sports: Defenses have taken Henley, Banks to OSAA postseason

Last weekend, the Douglas Trojans football team visited Klamath Falls with an average offensive output of 34 points per game.

Against Henley, they scored six.

Henley football head coach Wayne Amos

Defense has been the staple of Henley’s victories this season, including the 20-6 play-in victory over Douglas. In all seven of the Hornets’ wins, Henley has allowed no more than 16 points. In three games, opponents haven’t scored double digits, including two shutout wins.

The same holds true for the Banks Braves, Henley’s OSAA 4A State Championship opening round opponent on Friday night. Banks is 9-0 and off a Cowapa League championship. On the way to the title, Banks has kept four teams scoreless. OregonLive.com reports that is the most in the state this season, along with three other teams over three classifications.

The Braves allowed 39 points in their first two games, but only 43 in the final seven. 20 of the 43 came in Banks’ last win, 49-20 over Tillamook. Banks is the only team at the 4A level to have kept opponents under 100 points total this season.

Kickoff time on Friday is 7 p.m.
