OSAA 4A Soccer Play-in

Off a 5-1 victory on Senior Day for the Klamath Union Pelicans, the girls soccer team hosts Banks on Saturday in the OSAA 4A Girls Soccer Championship play-in round.

It was a wavering week for KU, starting with an appeal before the OSAA executive board  regarding the Pels use of an inelgible player from EagleRidge High School and the resulting forfeiture of wins. After initially denying the appeal, the board changed its mind, reinstating wins from the KU season and providing an opportunity for the Pelicans to win a conference co-championship with the win against North Valley.

KU head coach Scott Souders said much of the Pels support in the team’s final game came from their eventual conference co-champ.

While Henley awaits an opponent for the first round of the 16-team bracket, Mazama plays at Seaside on Saturday in the play-in round. Mazama has advanced to the semifinals the last three years, including a state championship in 2010.

Like the girls, Henley boys soccer is awaiting its first round opponent. Klamath Union and Mazama did not qualify for the postseason.
