KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Both Oregon Tech basketball teams are in the awareness of coaches throughout the nation, as the men’s team debuted at No. 21 and the women in the receiving votes section of their respective NAIA Div. II Preseason Top 25 poll.
It’s the first time both teams have received votes in the pre-season rankings since 2005-06.
Last season, the men had fallen out of the poll for the first time in nearly eight years, ending 90-straight appearances. Both teams were picked third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason poll.
After winning its first-ever national championship, Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) boasts the No. 1 ranking in the men’s poll. After finishing tenth last season, Southern Oregon is the highest-ranked CCC team at No. 4. Warner Pacific starts at No. 12 and is the only other CCC team in the poll.
Preseason CCC co-conference champions College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon were chosen No. 13 and 18 in the women’s poll. Defending champion Indiana Wesleyan is the top pick.
The Oregon Tech Lady Owls play Friday, Saturday and Monday, starting with Holy Names (5:15 p.m. – The Sports Legend, ESPN 960). For the men, they play Sunday at Danny Miles Court against Pacific Union College (4:30 p.m. – 92-5 KLAD). It is the first game for the team since a season-opening victory over the University of Lethbridge on Oct. 12.
Oregon Tech men’s soccer lost Monday 3-2 at Warner Pacific. The team is now 4-7-0 in the conference and had goals from Ashton Betts and Jackson Wold.
