HS Football: Klamath Falls 4A schools all have a shot at Skyline title

Klamath Union Pelicans football practice

The Canal Bowl is tonight, which also doubles as a partial Skyline Conference Championship. The annual football meeting between Klamath Union and Mazama (6:40 p.m. – The Sports Legend, ESPN 960) will produce, at least, a conference co-champion, while the rest of the title’s fate lies with Henley at Phoenix.

If Klamath Union is victorious, the Pelicans will be the Skyline’s No. 1 seed in the OSAA postseason, foregoing the play-in round and advancing to the 16-team playoff bracket. Unlike when the Pelicans won the 2011 title, the top seed also gets a guaranteed home game.

For Mazama, a victory over KU assures the Vikings part of the league title for the first time since 2010, but Mazama would need Henley to lose at Phoenix to claim the top seed. Henley owns the tiebreaker after a 35-14 win last week against Mazama, but lost 27-14 to Klamath Union to start the conference season.

Henley hasn’t had part of the Skyline championship since 2006.

Triad at Hosanna Christian (6:40 p.m. – Newstalk 1150 KAGO)

The Triad Timberwolves are the hottest football team in the Basin.

Triad (5-1 conf.) enters tonight’s game at Hosanna Christian on a six-game winning streak, including five in a row with a 30-point or higher margin of victory. The Timberwolves lead Powers by a game in the Mountain Valley League standings and own the tiebreaker between the two.

Hosanna Christian (2-4) stopped a three-game losing streak with a 46-14 win at Butte Falls last weekend. The Lions trail Elkton, Prospect and Gilchrist by one in the win column, but have lost to Prospect and Gilchrist already this season. Hosanna Christian ends the regular season next weekend at Elkton.
