Without any additional circumstances, an athletic team’s season opener can already be filled with hype, anticipation and nerves.

For Oregon Tech sophomore Tess Armstrong, this year’s women’s basketball debut – a Saturday road game at Humboldt State – will be more than that. Humboldt State University, an NCAA Div. II institution located in Arcata, Calif., is less than nine miles from Armstrong’s hometown of Eureka, Calif.

Oregon Tech head coach Scott Meredith appeared on Goofing Around earlier this week and said he worked hard to schedule a game with Humboldt State as part of Armstrong and junior teammate Rebekah Matteri’s recruitment to OIT. Matteri’s hometown is Arcata.

Starting with Saturday, the Lady Owls play four games in nine days, three of which are against NCAA opponents.
