SALEM, Ore. –The latest projection of Oregon’s prison populations shows inmate numbers down by 500 over the next two years because of changes made in the 2013 legislative session.

The forecast is a dramatic shift from one six months ago which projected a rising prison population over the next decade and said the growth would cost taxpayers $600 million.
