State may tax electronic cigarettes

Electronic Cigarette

SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Legislature is looking at whether to tax electronic cigarettes.

The state Department of Revenue told House and Senate committees yesterday that there are currently no taxes on electronic cigarettes.

E-cigarettes are becoming popular, as people are turning to them as alternatives to traditional cigarettes.

Lawmakers are discussing a tax on e-cigarettes because they contain nicotine, an addictive substance.
