Head of Republican party steps down after only six months on the job

BEND, Ore. — The head of Oregon’s Republican party has stepped down.

Suzanne Gallagher resigned as chairwoman of the Oregon Republican Party after only six months on the job.

Gallagher faced a recall vote at this weekend’s party convention in Bend, which is when she announced her decision.

Party members accused Gallagher of mishandling finances and making inappropriate hiring decisions.

Gallagher was elected to a two-year term in February and was charged with helping the party end its losing streak in Oregon.
