Victoria takes series opener from Gems

VICTORIA, British Columbia — The home team Victoria HarbourCats scored four runs in the first four innings to take command of the series opener, eventually beating the Klamath Falls Gems 11-4 at Royal Athletic Park on Tuesday night.

Victoria’s Alex DeGoti drove in two runs and three other HarbourCats brought in a run apiece to help Logan Lombana (1-1) earn a complete-game victory on the mound. The Victoria starter struck out four batters.

Klamath Falls’ Angelo Lingos (0-1) made his first start in his 12th game, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs without a strikeout. The middle of the Gems order, Cam Newell, LJ Brewster and Dylan Rogers, each had two hits, with Brewster driving in three of the team’s four runs.

The Gems slipped to five games out of a playoff spot in the West Coast League’s South Division with 11 games to go. Corvallis leads the division over Bend by two games. Game two of the series with Victoria resumes at 7:05 p.m. tonight (6:30 p.m. – 960 the Sports Legend).
