Gems close out road trip with loss

CORVALLIS, Ore. – A five-run second inning by the Corvallis Knights countered a four-run first inning by the Klamath Falls Gems, as Corvallis won 9-8 in the finale of the three-game series at Goss Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 9-6, Klamath Falls started a ninth inning rally, as Dempsey Grover scored on a passed ball followed by an RBI single by Paul Panaccione before the Gems fell short.

Jason Eberhardt (2-0) won the game for Corvallis, while Ian Buckles (0-1) lost his first for the Gems. Both pitched in relief. 

Klamath Falls finished its West Coast League-longest, nine-game road trip with a 4-5 record. The Gems (9-6) remain in second place in the WCL’s South Division, while Corvallis (10-8) moved to a half-game behind the Gems. 

Klamath Falls returns home to host Cowlitz at 6:35 p.m. tonight at Kiger Stadium (6 p.m. – 960 the Sports Legend).
