Players with Oregon ties, former Gem drafted by MLB teams

SECAUCUS, N.J. – Several players with Oregon ties have been selected through the seventh round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, including former North Medford player Braden Shipley going 15th overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The list includes a former Klamath Falls Gems player. Justin Bohn, who played infield for the Gems last season, was taken by the Miami Marlins with the 202nd pick out of Feather River College.

Shipley, a 98 mile-per-hour fastball thrower from the University of Nevada, could wind-up at the newly-relocated Diamondbacks single-A club, now in Hillsboro.

Oregon State pitchers Ben Wetzler and Matt Boyd went to the Phillies and Blue Jays, respectively, while Oregon infielder Ryan Healy was picked at No. 100 by the Oakland Athletics.
