Kansas farmer suing Monsanto for GMO wheat dicovery in Oregon

WITCHITA, Ks. –  A farmer in Kansas is suing Monsanto because of the GMO wheat found on an Oregon wheat farm.

The lawsuit claims the company was grossly negligent and hurt U.S. growers by driving down wheat prices and causing some international markets to suspend some wheat imports.

Ernest Barnes, who farms 1,000 acres near Elkhart in southwest Kansas, seeks unspecified damages.

U.S. Agriculture Department officials said last week that the wheat was the same strain as one designed by Monsanto. Similar lawsuits are also in the works.
