KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – During Wednesday’s Goofing Around at Lunch Forum, 960 the Sports Legend announced the MyBasin.com Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2013.
Henley’s Tara Moates and Bonanza’s Ryan Stewart were selected and will receive a certificate and an invitation to appear on the Basin’s live, local sports talk show, Goofing Around at Lunch.
In April, junior Tara Moates helped the Henley softball team to key victories over the Phoenix Pirates, eventually leading to a Skyline Conference title. She homered, hit a double and single as Henley beat the Pirates 3-0 and 4-3. In non-league games, Moates hit a grand slam against Grants Pass and brought in all of the Hornets’ runs in a 6-0 win at Pleasant Hill. The junior also made the Grand Honor Roll for Henley High School.
Senior Ryan Stewart helped the Bonanza Antlers baseball team to a second-best conference finish, including an 8-1 record in April (not including forfeits). Stewart pitched to wins over Lakeview and Prospect in the month, the latter being a three-hit effort. He was in a car accident before the season began and, as his nomination state, “he is back on the baseball field making a difference and his grades never slipped. He is a strong young man.” Stewart is an honor roll student at Bonanza High School.
Lost River track and field athlete Emily Parks and Mazama baseball’s Dylan Smith were our Facebook Fan Vote winners and will receive a Fans’ Choice certificate.
The Student-Athletes of the Month are selected by 960 the Sports Legend from nominations by the community, athletic directors and/or knowledge of athletic achievements, as well as votes from the Facebook Fan Vote.
