Smoke jumpers land in field of marijuana

APPLEGATE, Ore. — Smoke jumpers looking for lightning sparked fires in the Applegate area unknowingly landed in the middle of a large field of marijuana.

The firefighting team notified the sheriff’s office, and they went out and pulled over 1,500 plants on Tuesday.

The site was covered with garbage and poisonous chemicals, and officials said there was evidence that the grow was run by Mexican cartel operation.
