More sexual assaults reported this year thanks to campaign

ASHLAND, Ore. — More sexual assaults are being reported to authorities in Ashland than in years past.

The Ashland Police Department is crediting a new campaign that was just launched in January that encourages sexual assault victims make a report with police. From just the first of the year through April, Ashland police received 16 reports of sexual assaults which is up from 11 during the same months just a year ago, according to statistics.

Police estimate in past years that only 15 to 20 percent of sexual assaults have been reported.
