Bill will reclassify placentas so new mothers can take them home

SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Legislature just passed a bill that will allow hospitals to send placentas home with mothers who want them that have just given birth.

The Oregon Senate gave a unanimous thumbs up tp the bill, HB 2612, on yesterday. It now goes to the governor for him to sign.

Under the law now, hospitals classify placentas as hazardous waste, but the bill, if passed, would change that classification.
