PHOENIX, Ore. – The Klamath Union Pelicans came into Tuesday’s play struggling through a mid-season swoon. Having lost three of their last four, the Pelicans were playing at Phoenix (1-8), but trailed 4-3 in the sixth with a runner at 1st base.

The play at the plate was followed by KU getting a runner to third with two outs in the seventh, but Trenton McGahan’s at bat ended with him put out at first base despite a diving effort and Phoenix held on for a 4-3 win.
Phoenix starting pitcher Justin McCreadie won the game throwing 4 1/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out five batters. Zach Kentner helped with 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing three hits and no runs.
Klamath Union’s Albert Depew was charged with the loss after throwing six innings and giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs. Depew struck out five batters and walked three.
Joe Whisler scored after hitting a triple and advancing to home on a Phoenix fielding error. Branden Tron went 2 for 4 with a double and Marcus Paschal had two doubles. Phoenix was led offensively by Aaron Hutchinson’s 2 for 3 performance.
The Pelicans look to rebound on Saturday hosting North Valley for a doubleheader (Noon – 960 the Sports Legend). Phoenix plays at home for two against Hidden Valley.
