SALEM, Ore. — The Salt Creek Tunnel construction, which had its start delayed because of weather, started officially on Wednesday.
During weekday, daylight hours there will be single lane traffic with crews and pilot cars directing traffic. Delays should be up to 20 minutes. Highway 58 will be closed entirely beginning at 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday nights and reopening at 6 a.m. the following mornings. From Friday at 6 a.m. until Monday at 8 p.m., there will be no complete closures, with single lane, pilot car traffic continuing.
The construction is to repair the adjacent west half viaduct as well as the three east viaducts which are failing.
