Chiloquin woman rescued on Mount Ashland

ASHLAND, Ore. — A Chiloquin woman who went missing on Mount Ashland has been found.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports that 52-year-old Carol Koon spent the night in a horse corral and was able to get service on her cellphone Monday morning, as the search party had grown to an aircraft, snow machines and about 45 people.

A helicopter crew then saw her on a Forest Service road. Rescuers on a snow machine brought her back to the lodge, where she hugged family members.

She vanished after telling them she was going skiing in the steep, ungroomed area known as “the bowl” in the Mt. Ashland Ski Area.

She didn’t make a 4 p.m. rendezvous with the family, and a search began.
