LA GRANDE, Ore. — Oregon Tech softball pitcher Taylor Schmidt was selected Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks after leading OIT to a 3-1 weekend against Concordia and Northwest.
Schmidt allowed two runs in her 17 innings pitched and registered 12 strikeouts while improving her record to 14-1 this season. In the CCC standings, Oregon Tech (7-1) is tied in the loss column with first place Corban (9-1) and Southern Oregon (7-1).
The Owls baseball team announced the signing of Aaron Burke for next season. He is a senior at Bellingham High School in Washington where he hit .358 and registered a .541 on-base percentage. He is a three-year starter in centerfield and hits leadoff.
In 2012, Burke helped the Red Raiders to the 2012 2A state tournament for the first time in seven seasons, two years after he aided the Bellingham American Legion A team to a Washington State Championship.
Klamath Falls Gems
Earlier this month, the Klamath Falls Gems announced the signing of three players from UC-Santa Barbara. One is an Oregon native in Roseburg graduate Cameron Newell. After hitting .350 and winning all-league honors and a gold glove for Linn-Benton College, Newell transferred to UCSB. He’ll be joined in Klamath Falls by UCSB teammates Dempsey Grover and Peter Maris, a catcher and infielder, respectively.
