Dalai Lama’s visit to Eugene continues to sell tickets

EUGENE, Ore. — In his first appearance in Eugene, the Dalai Lama will be seen by at least 3,000 more people.

It took only 25 minutes Monday for the University of Oregon to sell about 3,000 general public tickets to the Dalai Lama’s May 10 lecture at Matt Knight Arena.

UO spokesman Phil Weiler says that’s comparable to how quickly tickets sold for a 2011 Elton John performance.

The Register-Guard reports close to 11,000 people will attend, with about 3,000 tickets going to UO students last week and others to faculty and staff and to the event co-sponsor, the Eugene Sakya Center.
