It’s state championship time, as the Mazama Vikings play La Grande in the OSAA 4A Girls Basketball State Championship final tonight at 6:30 p.m.

It is the first appearance in the title game for Mazama while La Grande’s only final came in 2002 when the Tigers lost to Wilsonville 41-34 in the 3A championship when there were four classes.

La Grande has victories over common opponents Henley and Sisters, but lost to fellow-tournament participant La Salle 67-29 on Dec. 29. It was La Grande’s only loss to an in-state 4A team. Meanwhile, Mazama has not lost at all to a 4A team.

Mazama head coach Joy Lease says her team is laser-lock focused on making this tournament more about winning the title and not just making the championship game.

For senior Shaylee Totten, the game is more about finishing her senior campaign strongly.
