PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Timbers Tuesday announced that midfielder Sal Zizzo underwent successful surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee. The procedure was performed by Timbers Director of Medicine Dr. Richard Edelson at Sports Medicine Oregon in Tigard, Ore.
Zizzo, who sustained the injury Monday in training, is expected to be out four weeks.
In his third season with the Timbers, Zizzo, 25, played in the clubs season-opening draw against the New York Red Bulls over the weekend. He has appeared in 51 matches, recording one goal and eight assists since joining the club in a trade with Chivas USA on Feb. 16, 2011.
