OSAA 4A: Mazama starts state title culmination

After a decisive 82-44 win over Sisters in Saturday’s second round, the top-ranked Mazama girls travel to Corvallis for the OSAA 4A Basketball State Championships final site tournament, starting Wednesday.

For head coach Joy Lease and her Vikings, the goal is to bring a 4A girls state title back to the Basin for a second straight year after Henley won 41-35 over Sutherlin last season. Mazama was in that tournament, but lost to Banks 44-33 in the opening round and the Vikings have never been to a state tournament final.

This year’s quarterfinal is against Brookings-Harbor, a team that Mazama already defeated this year 54-28.

The game starts at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Oregon State University’s Gill Coliseum. The OSAA Radio Network will broadcast the games online and MyBasin.com will follow the Vikings with video and audio features posted throughout the three-day event.
