BAKER CITY, Ore. — The Hosanna Christian Lady Lions held a 37-27 lead with just over six minutes remaining in their quarterfinal game against City Christian of Portland.
Less than two minutes later, City Christian of Portland was within 37-36.
Despite their opponent’s run, Hosanna Christian seniors Emma Thompson and Carly Bigby combined for the Lady Lions’ final seven points of the game for a 44-41 victory. Bigby made one-of-two free throws with 10 seconds remaining before City Christian’s Abby Lewellen missed a potentially game-tying three-pointer high off the backboard.

The win moves Hosanna Christian into Friday’s OSAA 1A Girls Basketball State Championship semifinal against top-ranked Damascus Christian (1 p.m. – 960 the Sports Legend – Radio only). Damascus Christian defeated Triangle Lake 62-43.
Hosanna’s Pamela Muro made a three-pointer to tie the score at 25-25 halfway through the third, which sparked a 12-2 run to build the game-high 10-point lead. City Christian was held scoreless for three minutes spanning from the late third to the early fourth quarter.
Bigby finished with a game-high 16 points, while Thompson had eight points and nine rebounds. Elana Hampton scored seven points, Mady Bush had six and Moro finished with five.
City Christian (24-6) was led by sisters Abby Lewellen’s 11 points and Piper Lewellen’s 10 points and will play Triangle Lake in the loser-out consolation semifinal Friday morning.
