KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A case of whooping cough in an infant has been officially diagnosed in Klamath County.

Klamath County Health Department Director Marilynn Sutherland revealed the case of pertussis in the area and the department will investigate for other cases as the infant was in Klamath County School District daycare.

Whooping cough is particularly dangerous and can be fatal for infants who are too young to be immunized.

Sutherland said in the release she credits Klamath County’s fourth-highest mark for immunization in the state as the reason for avoiding pertussis until now.
