Jackson Co. set to fire 66 law enforcement workers

MEDFORD, Ore. — Amid contract talks, Jackson County has given 66 law enforcement workers notice they’ll lose their jobs in four weeks.

Sheriff Mike Winters says some of those layoff notices could be rescinded if the county and the Sheriff’s Employees Association agree on a contract.

Winters says the cuts he foresees would eliminate around-the-clock patrols, and they would hit the jail staff, court security detail, search and rescue teams and other parts of the department.
