Bonanza’s Phillip Morgan is the No. 1 seed at 195 pounds at this weekend’s 2A/1A OSAA Wrestling State Championships in Portland at Memorial Coliseum. The junior transfer from Henley will wrestle Heppner senior Tim Nelson in the opening match. Junior Matthew Staigle of Enterprise is the second seed and finished fourth at 182 pounds last year. Morgan finished in second place at last year’s 4A meet as a Henley sophomore.
Hosanna Christian’s Shon Moses finished fourth at 195 pounds last year, but now wrestles at 220 pounds and is the third seed this weekend. Moses’ teammates Omar Alvarado and Nate Beckstrand are also in the field.
At the 3A level, Lakeview enters seven wrestlers including Mack Crandall at 120 pounds, 126-pound Connor Lysne, Nathan Harlan at 160 pounds and 220-pound entrant Eddie Murreita.
Tony Frank is the second seed at 195 pounds, while teammate Dylan Amerson is the fourth-seeded heavyweight. Daniel Martinez is also in the 285-pound class and could face No. 2 Kye Yraguen from Vale in the second round.
