Henley leads Basin charge into state wrestling



MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. – The Henley Hornets wrestling team won six individual matches in Saturday’s Southern Oregon Wrestling Regional at South Umpqua High School.

In all, Henley, Klamath Union and Mazama advanced 27 wrestlers to next weekend’s OSAA Wrestling State Championships in Portland. 16 of those wrestlers come from Henley, which had Tyler Scott, Ronnie Bresser, Conner Noonan, Zech Bresser, Austin Tillery and Eli Noonan win weight classes. Stephen Noonan, Joe Britt, Calvin Tillery, Gary Jantzer, William Noonan, Matt Walsh, James Noonan, Chase Femlund, Quinton Hook and Trevor Kuhlman also placed well enough to make the state tournament.

Klamath Union put 10 wrestlers into the state meet, getting three regional titles from Tee Nguyen, Chase Anderson and Phil Morse. Trevor Anderson and Mitch Mirande lost their weight class final, but will go to state, as will Bee Nguyen, Nick Osborn, Will Ruiz, Sterling Westfall and Gary Prescott.

Mazama’s Rowdy Wells lost to Tee Nguyen, but still makes the state field.

At the 2A/1A level, Hosanna Christian’s Nate Beckstrand, Shon Moses and Omar Alvarado will wrestle this weekend too.
