NAIA poll has OIT with most first place votes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Oregon Tech men’s basketball team is second in the NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll. The 2012 national champions were placed one point behind the team they defeated for the title – Northwood (Fla.).

The two teams were separated by one point in the poll, although the Owls received one more first place vote.

Tyrone Davis returns as the team’s point guard, which lost NAIA Player of the Year Jon Dunn. Oregon Tech lost leading scorers Bobby Hunter, Kyle Gomez and Jason Gamblin, but return senior David Clarke who averaged 10 points per game and redshirt junior Mihajlo Matic, who scored seven points per game in 2010.

Northwood’s Sun Conference has three teams in the poll, while OIT’s Cascade Collegiate Conference earned four spots including Southern Oregon for the first time since 2006.
