An Oregon museum will be one of seven in the nation to get a visit from the Congressional Gold Medal – given to Japanese-American World War II veterans.
The medal will visit the Oregon History Museum in Portland in August and September of next year after stops in New Orleans, Hawaii and California.
It was awarded in 2011 to the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service.
The medal will be shown with an iPad application and educational website.
After the tour, the medal will go on permanent display in the military history gallery at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington.
