LAKE COUNTY, Ore. — Earlier this month, a lightning caused wildfire started outside of Lakeview and spread into California. Recently, firefighters have been making progress on containing the fire.

The National Incident Team projects the Barry Point Fire will be contained by Aug. 25 and Fire Information Officer Jim Whittington says firefighters are right on schedule.

Whittington says crews continue to mop up and secure the lines, which haven’t been challenged by the weather. Since positive progress has been made, the evacuation level in California’s Modoc County has changed.

The fire has burned 93,071 acres and is 70 percent contained.
