ROSEBURG, Ore. — Oregon State Police say they arrested 79-year-old William R. Barnes Sr. after a chase on Interstate 5 reached speeds of nearly 110 mph.

The chase ensued after the driver refused to stop and later crashed in a non-freeway ditch.

He was arrested and police say he reportedly didn’t stop because he thought troopers were chasing him on an unrelated matter, but police declined to discuss what that reason was.
