EUGENE, Ore. — The compeition to find the new Oregon Ducks starting quarterback began this week with sophomore Bryan Bennett and freshman Marcus Mariota getting 22 practices to determine the opening weekend starter.
The Ducks play Arkansas State on Sept. 1 at Autzen Stadium.
Oregon lost two-year starter Darron Thomas in the off season, as Thomas pursued the NFL. He was not drafted after finishing his tenure at Oregon with a 23-3 record as a starter.
The Ducks will practice Tuesday through Friday this week until about 3:30 p.m., with Friday’s practice scheduled as the first in full pads. Two-a-day workouts start on Saturday, according to Oregon Media Services.
