Furloughs ineffective says recent audit

SALEM, Ore. — A recent audit of prison furloughs might suggest the unpaid days off do no good in the system.

A review released Thursday shows that the use of furloughs were ineffective for at least two prisons - Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville and Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

The thought is that prisons require 24-hour staffing, so when a furlough day is used, another employee must work overtime to cover that excused employee’s shift.
