Judge grants request to log in Coast Range

EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon’s plan to log more in the Coast Range forests was granted by a federal judge despite a lawsuit. The request was put forward by logging industry firms in defense of Governor John Kitzhaber and other state officials’ plan to allow for more logging. The lawsuit was from environmental groups saying it would harm the habitat of the marbled murrelet and is against the Endangered Species Act.

State officials say they will protect the seabird.
