Timber payments continue

WASHINGTON — Timber payments have been a vital revenue stream for many Oregon counties including Klamath, and the end of them would have put a serious financial strain on budgets. But members of Congress have passed the one-year extension of the timber payments as part of a national transportation bill. Congress also authorized the one-time distribution of $346 million to 700 rural counties in 41 states. Oregon gets $100 million of that.
