KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Over $2,000 in scholarships were awarded recently to Klamath Basin student-athletes courtesy of the Klamath County Sports Officials scholarships.
Klamath Union’s Alex Stork and Bonanza’s Josie Stickel earned the top amounts from the ten total athletes receiving the scholarship. The awards were presented at each winner’s award banquet.
Stork guided the Klamath Union Pelicans football team to the Skyline Conference championship while playing basketball for the Pelicans. Stickel was a multi-sport athlete at Bonanza, playing libero on the Antlers volleyball team and on the girls basketball team also.
Recently named Southern Cascade League baseball Player of the Year Conner Hickey was the boys second place winner, with Klamath Union’s Kody Kuhlman third. Those prizes were $250 and $175, respectively. Drew Nevala and Jeff Rutledge of Mazama and Triad each received $100 for honorable mention.
On the girls side, Jordin Scholer of Henley received $250 for second place with LeAnn Valenta coming up third. Callie Porter of KU and Henley’s Elle Morgan each received honorable mention.
Started in 2011, the fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors at the nine schools serviced by the organization. It is financed through donations from the officials themselves. Winners are chosen through academic performance and a coach’s letter of recommendation.
