KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – 960 the Sports Legend and Charter are proud to announce the Charter Student Athletes of the Month with the selection of winners from May 2012.
Henley’s Josh Overstreet and Mazama’s Megan Morris were selected and will receive a prize package and an invitation to appear on the Basin’s live, local sports talk show, Goofing Around at Lunch, on June 8.
Overstreet is a sophomore on the Henley baseball team, which just turned a fourth place Skyline Conference finish into a semifinal playoff run. On a team primarily made up of his classmates, Overstreet came up with multi-hit games and also pitched. Overstreet had a grand slam in Henley’s 11-5 victory over North Valley on May 12, which was the day that Henley began a stretch of four wins in five games to end the season and playoffs. Against No. 4 Philomath, he had another home run and also had two hits in the 5-4 semifinal loss to Hidden Valley, hitting a triple in the seventh inning.
Morris is a sophomore at Mazama High School, winning the OSAA 4A Track and Field State Championship title in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 58.68 was not only her top time of the year, but also broke the school record for the event according to her nomination. In doing so, she defeated the defending state champion and brought home of one of two gold medals to the Basin (Alisha Luna – Klamath Union – 3,000-meter run). Her state title time was also one of the state’s top 20 fastest in the event regardless of classification.
Each student is expected to receive a prize package from Charter and an Applebee’s gift certificate during the June 8 edition of Goofing Around at Lunch at Applebee’s on Campus Drive in Klamath Falls.
The Charter Student Athletes of the Month are selected by 960 the Sports Legend from nominations by the community, athletic directors and/or knowledge of athletic achievements. Please send nominations for your selection to email@example.com.
