Bend rallies to defeat Gems in opener



KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Many from the Basin turned out to Kiger Stadium Friday night to watch the 2012 season opener for Klamath Falls Gems baseball. There were smiles. There were eats. There was almost a win.

At the end of nine innings though, the Bend Elks (1-0) had more runs despite being outhit to claim the opening game victory 6-4 over Klamath Falls.

Josh Wong went 3-for-4 from the plate and teammate Logan Grindy was 3-for-5.

The Gems (0-1) play Bend again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Kiger Stadium (6:35 p.m. – 960 the Sports Legend).
