Gems players earn collegiate accolades

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges announced its post season baseball awards and three 2012-committed Gems received honors. Pitcher Christian Bannister (Mt. Hood CC) and infielder Parker Miles (Chemetka CC) were named to the first team All-NWAACC team, while outfielder Spencer Smith (Lane CC) was named to the Gold Glove team.

· Bannister, a sophomore from Vancouver, WA, leads the Association with 18 saves, 10 more than his closest competitor. On the season he is 2-0, 1.08 and has a K/BB ratio of 39/7.

· Miles, a sophomore from Salem, OR, hit .340 with two home runs, 23 RBI and is 10/10 in stolen bases. He also hit .396 in NWAACC conference play.

· Smith, a freshman from Tigard, OR, played 39 games in center field for Lane without making an error. He also hit .291 with 11 doubles, four triples and 15 RBI on the season.

The Gems start West Coast League play on June 1 at Kiger Stadium as the team hosts the Bend Elks at 7:05 p.m. (960 the Sports Legend).
