Owls softball prepares for NAIA opener

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The bracket is out and Oregon Tech softball will open with Madonna (Mich.) at next week’s NAIA National Tournament in Alabama.

Coach Greg Stewart and the No. 7 Owls will see the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference champion on May 17 at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time to open pool G play. OIT is the pool’s number one seed, while St. Gregory’s (Okla.) and Shorter (Ga.) are the third and second seeds, respectively.

Oregon Tech is 39-7 this season, winning the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament title, which built some momemtum that junior Jess Plummer said is huge in OIT’s attempt to defend its 2011 national title.

Madonna enters the tournament 33-12. All the games will be broadcast on 960 the Sports Legend and Owls fans are encouraged to sign up for text alerts about the Owls.
