KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – 960 the Sports Legend and Charter are proud to announce the Charter Student Athletes of the Month with the selection of winners from April 2012.
Henley’s Kaitlin Collom and Triad’s Gabe Ovgard were selected and will receive a prize package and an invitation to appear on the Basin’s live, local sports talk show, Goofing Around at Lunch, on May 11.
Collom is a freshman for the Henley golf team. A three-time champion in April, Collom was victorious at the Klamath Basin Invitational by nine strokes with an even-par 72. In a stretch this season, Collom had won three of four tournaments, finishing second in the one she didn’t win. She also won the 2011 Oregon Junior Amateur Championship title at age 14.
Ovgard is a sophomore at Triad and currently holds the 1A classification’s best time in both the 100- and 200-meter races for the state of Oregon. Ovgard finished second and first, respectively, in those races at April’s Sterling Bank Invitational in Klamath Falls. Competing at the state’s smallest level, Ovgard’s state-best times rank in the top 30 regardless of classification. His 100-meter time is 14th best overall, missing the top 10 by just .10 seconds. Nine of the top 10 are 5A or 6A athletes.
Each student is expected to receive a prize package from Charter and an Applebee’s gift certificate during the May 11 edition of Goofing Around at Lunch at Applebee’s on Campus Drive in Klamath Falls.
The Charter Student Athletes of the Month are selected by 960 the Sports Legend from nominations by the community, athletic directors and/or knowledge of athletic achievements. Please send nominations for your selection to email@example.com.
