Fugitive arrested in Brookings

BROOKINGS, Ore. — Oregon State Police and Brookings Police Department arrested a federal fugitive early Saturday at a Brookings-area bar where he was working as a disc jockey. The man was sought by U.S. Marshals Service and Oakland County, Michigan Sheriff’s Office for two arrest warrants.

According to Senior Trooper Jess Oliver, information was received from the U.S. Marshals Service and Oakland County, Michigan Sheriff’s Office that a wanted fugitive Craig Thomas Balog was possibly in the Brookings area working at a local business. Follow up investigation by BPD and OSP confirmed Balog was working at the 101 Bar and Grill in the 98000 block of West Benham Lane.

The 30-year-old was considered by the US Marshals Service as armed and dangerous and was wanted on a federal warrant for probation violation. He was also wanted out of Oakland County, Michigan on a warrant charging failure to appear for sentencing.

He was lodged in the Curry County Jail.
