POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — The Oregon Tech Hustin’ Owls are the national champions, beating top-ranked Northwood 63-46 Tuesday night to claim the school’s third NAIA Div. II Men’s Basketball Championship title – tied for the most in NAIA history.
Oregon Tech held the nation’s fourth-best three-point shooting team to a 1-of-19 performance, taking a one-point halftime deficit to a 17-point win.
Kyle Gomez won the tournament Hustle Award and was first-team all-tournament selection, as was Bobby Hunter who finished with 20 points and was named tournament MVP.
The Owls made just two field goals in the final 13:30 of the opening half, but shot 67 percent from the floor in the second half.
Oregon Tech’s win was its 34th – the most in school history.
