CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Henley Hornets did what no other team could in 28 tries – beat the Sutherlin Bulldogs girls basketball team. Henley’s 41-35 victory at Gill Coliseum Saturday claimed the OSAA 4A State Championship title.
The championship is the third in school history and first title since 1991. The win was Henley’s seventh straight.
The Hornets had its 13-7 first quarter lead disappear to be tied 24-24 at half.
Henley (25-4) used the same 13-7 score in the final period to win the game after trailing by one through three quarters.
Elle Morgan shot 7-of-12, including three three-pointers, for a game high 19 points. She was the only winning player in double figures.
Miranda Mendenhall had 10 points to lead Sutherlin (28-1).
The Bulldogs shot just 28 percent for the game, while allowing Henley to shoot 44 percent.
